Based in Michigan • Polishing agates & rocks for collectors nationwide since 2009

    Professional Rock & Agate Polishing

We take raw or tumbled agates and transform them into polished display pieces using professional lapidary equipment and decades of hands-on experience.

Unlike tumbling (which rounds edges), our polishing equipment preserves your stone's natural shape while creating a smooth, mirror-like surface that reveals internal patterns and colors invisible to the naked eye. We use wet belt sanders, wet grinders, cabbing machines and flat lap machines for our polishing services.

Whether you found a beautiful beach agate on your last trip to Lake Superior, inherited a collection from a family member, or want to elevate a special piece for display — we're here to help.

    Step by Step

    How Our Process Works

Transparency matters. Here's exactly what happens from first contact to final delivery.

    1

    Share Your Stone

Send us clear photos of your agate from multiple angles. Tell us about where you found it, what you love about it, and what you envision for the finished piece.

We respond within 24 hours with an honest assessment and recommendation.

    2

    Expert Assessment

Our lapidary expert evaluates your stone's unique characteristics — pattern, translucency, potential fractures, and optimal cutting angles.

We'll explain what's possible and help you make an informed decision.

    3

    Careful Preparation

We clean your agate and plan the polishing approach. For larger pieces, we may create a custom jig to hold it securely during the process.

Every stone is handled with the care it deserves.

    4

    Multi-Stage Polishing

Your agate progresses through 4-7 grit stages, from 80 grit to 14,000 grit depending on the finish level. Each stage is inspected before moving forward. Learn more about this in our grit progression guide.

This process typically takes 2-4 hours of hands-on work per piece.

    5

    Final Inspection & Delivery

We photograph the finished piece and send you images before shipping. Your polished agate is carefully packaged and delivered to your door.

Includes care instructions for maintaining your stone's beauty.

    Common Questions

    Rock Polishing FAQs

What is rock polishing and how does it work?

Rock polishing is the lapidary process of smoothing and finishing a rough stone using progressively finer abrasives (grits). We use wet belt sanders, cabbing machines, and flat laps to take your agate through 4–7 grit stages — from 80 grit all the way to 14,000 grit — resulting in a mirror-like surface that reveals the stone's internal banding and color.

What types of rocks and agates can you polish?

We polish Lake Superior agates, Brazilian agates, Montana moss agates, crazy lace agates, thunder eggs, geodes, jasper, petrified wood, and most other lapidary-grade rocks. If you're unsure whether your stone qualifies, send us a photo and we'll evaluate it for free.

How do I ship my rocks for polishing?

We provide detailed packing instructions and recommend USPS Priority Mail with insurance. Wrap each stone individually in bubble wrap and pack securely. We'll send you a mailing address after your free consultation.

Can you polish agates with cracks or fractures?

Often yes, but we'll be honest about limitations. Some fractures can be stabilized before polishing. Others may prevent a high polish in certain areas. We'll explain what to expect before starting your order.

How long does rock polishing take?

Typical turnaround is 5–10 business days after we receive your stone. Rush service (2–3 days) is available for an additional fee. Exhibition grade pieces may take 2–3 weeks due to the meticulous multi-stage process.

What if I'm not happy with the results?

Your satisfaction matters to us. If you're not happy, we'll discuss options including re-polishing at no charge. We stand behind our work with a satisfaction guarantee.

Do you offer bulk rock polishing pricing?

Yes! If you have 5 or more stones, contact us for a custom quote. We offer discounts for larger batches while maintaining the same attention to quality and finish.
